We would like to invite you to attend the "International Seminar on the Implementation of the World Report on Disability", an initiative of the São Paulo State Secretariat for the Rights of the Person with Disability in partnership with the World Health Organization, the Pan-American Health Organization, the World Bank, the Global Partnership for Disability and Development, the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, the Latin-American Network of Non-Governmental Organizations of Persons with Disabilities and their Families, the Brazilian Association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and the Lucy Montoro Rehabilitation Network.

The event, which will be held from February 23rd to 25th, 2012, in São Paulo, Brazil, will underscore the launch of the Portuguese version of the World Report on Disability, being of most significance to the international society, as it will enable the discussion of relevant subjects to the development of strategies for the Report's implementation, such as housing, education, employment, health, and enabling environments.

The main objective of the Seminar is to identify the challenges to the implementation of the Report's recommendations aiming at the promotion of equal opportunities for persons with and without disabilities, as established by the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Aiming at this target, the Seminar will count on the presence of several representatives from the partner institutions and invited experts, so we can present new world-reaching guidelines to tackle the challenges that still prevent the guarantee of equality of rights for persons with disabilities in every subject, but with a special emphasis on health and rehabilitation.

Dr. Linamara Rizzo Battistella, São Paulo State Secretary for the Rights of the Person with Disability
